Admission Requirements


The Candidate must

  • Hold a good Bachelors degree (average grade B or equivalent) from a recognized university, or in exceptional circumstances, such other qualifications and experience that meet with the approval of the Board of Graduate Studies;

  • Pass a placement test (interview and/or written test) set by the core programme staff;

  • Provide evidence of a minimum TOEFL score of 620 or IELTS score of 7.5 to establish proficiency in English if this is not their first language. The test must have been taken not earlier than two years before the proposed date of admission and certified copies of the relevant documents must be included with this application;

  • Pass any preparatory modules as indicated by the core programme staff on a case-by-case basis;

  • Preference will be given to candidates with an honours degree, appropriate work experience and a relevant background in Anatomy, Linguistics, Physiology or Psychology.

The Admissions Committee carefully reviews all applications, including reference letters, performance on selection tests, and interviewer feedback, to gain a thorough understanding of each applicant. While good academic grades are important, our approach to admissions is holistic. We aim to select candidates who share our vision of building a professional community of highly competent and compassionate clinicians for the future. Desirable traits and skills include effective communication, teamwork, critical thinking and reasoning skills, resilience, integrity, reflectiveness, and a commitment to lifelong learning. All candidates must demonstrate the physical, mental, emotional, and social abilities needed to participate fully in all aspects of the MSc(SLP) curriculum in order to achieve the optimal learning experience.

Note: Applicants are strongly encouraged to seek job shadowing opportunities in both adult and paediatric settings to gain a first-hand understanding of the range of work and responsibilities of Speech and Language Therapists before joining the course.
